Our Best Plea

1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. -Psalm 4

Hear me for thy mercy-sake, is our best plea. One who will not ask such blessings as pardon, and justifying righteousness, and eternal life, must perish for the want of them.  Oh do not make so fearful a choice. The psalmist warns against sin. Keep up holy reverence of the glory and majesty of God.

The Path
I have not, the wisdom to see,
The path God set for me.
But I have the trust and faith in me,
That God will walk the path with me.
And when I grow faint and weary,
I know my God will carry me.
And should I face uncertainty,
I trust that God will guide me.
I have not, the wisdom to see,
The path God set for me.
But I have the trust and faith in me,
That God set it from His love for me.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life. -John 3:16

Can This Be Christmas?

candleglowing

As Christmas time approaches this year, we find it is a very busy time. People are always in a hurry it seems to get all the trimmings and festivities in order. Christmas time is also a good time to show love, especially to thel ittle ones. John talks about love in his letter.

********************
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No-one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. -1 John 4, 7-14

Can This Be Christmas?

What’s all this hectic rush and worry’
Where go these crowds who run and curry’
Why all the lights—the Christmas trees’
The jolly “fat man,” tell me please!

Why, don’t you know? This is the day
For parties and for fun and play;
Why this is Christmas!

So this is Christmas, do you say’
But where is Christ this Christmas day’
Has He been lost among the throng’
His voice drowned out by empty song’

No. He’s not here—you’ll find Him where
Some humble soul now kneels in prayer,
Who knows the Christ of Christmas.

But see the many aimless thousands
Who gather on this Christmas Day,
Whose hearts have never yet been opened,
Or said to Him, “Come in to stay.”

In countless homes the candles burning,
In countless hearts expectant yearning
For gifts and presents, food and fun,
And laughter till the day is done.

But not a tear of grief or sorrow
For Him so poor He had to borrow
A crib, a colt, a boat, a bed
Where He could lay His weary head.

I’m tired of all this empty celebration,
Of feasting, drinking, recreation;
I’ll go instead to Calvary.

And there I’ll kneel with those who know
The meaning of that manger low,
And find the Christ—this Christmas.

I leap by faith across the years
To that great day when He appears
The second time, to rule and reign,
To end all sorrow, death, and pain.

In endless bliss we then shall dwell
With Him who saved our souls from hell,
And worship Christ—not Christmas!

Story of the Christmas Gift

It happened one day at the year’s white end,
Two neighbors called on an old-time friend.

And they found his shop so meager and mean,
Made gay with a thousand boughs of green.
And Conrad was sitting with face a-shine,
When he suddendly stopped as he stitched a twine.

And said “Old friends, at dawn today,
When the cock was crowing the night away,
The Lord appeared in a dream to me,
And said “I am coming your guest to be”.

So I’ve been busy with feet astir,
Strewing my shop with branches of fir.
The table is spread and the kettle is shined,
And over the rafters the holly is twined.

And now I will wait for my Lord to appear,
And listen closely so I will hear.
His step as He nears my humble place,
And I open the door and look in His face…”

So his friends went home and left Conrad alone,
For this was the happiest day he had known.
For long since his family had passed away,
And Conrad has spent a sad Christmas Day.

And he listened with only joy in his heart,
And with every sound he would rise with a start.
And look for the Lord to be standing there,
In answer to his earnest prayer.

So he ran to the window after hearing a sound,
But all that he saw on the snow-covered ground.
Was a shabby beggar whose shoes were torn,
And all of his clothes were ragged and worn.

So Conrad was touched and went to the door,
And he said “Your feet must be frozen and sore.
And I have some shoes in my shop for you,
And a coat that will keep you warmer, too.”

So with grateful heart the man went away,
But as Conrad noticed the time of day.
He wondered what made the dear Lord so late,
And how much longer he’d have to wait.

When he heard a knock and ran to the door,
But it was only a stranger once more.
A bent, old crone with a shawl of black,
A bundle of faggots piled on her back.

She asked for only a place to rest,
But that was reserved for Conrad’s Great Guest.
But her voice seemed to plead, “Don’t send me away,
Let me rest awhile on Christmas Day.”

So Conrad brewed her a steaming cup,
And told her to sit at the table and sup.
But after she left he was filled with dismay,
For he saw that the hours were passing away.

And the Lord had not come as He said He would,
And Conrad felt sure he had misunderstood.
When out of the stillness he heard a cry,
“Please help me and tell me where am I.”

So again he opened his friendly door,
And stood disappointed as twice before.
It was only a child who had wandered away,
And was lost from her family on Christmas Day.

Again Conrad’s heart was heavy and sad,
But he knew he should make this little child glad.
So he called her in and wiped her tears,
And quieted her childish fears.

Then he led her back to her home once more,
But as he entered his own darkened door.
He knew that the Lord was not coming today,
For the hours of Christmas had passed away.

So he went to his room and knelt down to pray,
And he said “Dear Lord, why did you delay.
What kept You from coming to call on me,
For I wanted so much Your face to see…”

When soft in the silence a voice he heard,
“Lift up your head for I kept My word.
Three times My shadow crossed your floor,
Three times I came to your lonely door.

For I was the beggar with bruised, cold feet.
I was the woman you gave to eat.
And I was the child on the homeless street.”

A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth. Proverbs 17:8

A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men -Proverbs 18:6

And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. -Ecclesiates 3:13

Angel Visit

Long ago  Mary, a young woman of Nazareth, received a visitation from an angel of the Lord The angel announced to her that she had been chosen to become the mother of Jesus. What a privilege this must have been.

When the angel visited Mary she was overwhelmed, no doubt. Her response was  “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” (Luke 1:34). Mary is still a virgin and does not have a husband yet.

Her response again was “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).

THANKSGIVING BLESSINGS

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone

Jesus was thankful to the Father for food while on earth. Today on this special day, let us not forget that all blessings come from God. The pilgrims were thankful when they arrived. We too should be thankful.

And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. -John 6:11

And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat. -Acts 27:35

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  -Phil. 4:6

We are on our way to  a better land so – In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thess. 5:18

It is God’s will that we be thankful.

Prayer: All glory, honor and praise, belongs to you Lord. Wisdom and Might is yours. It is by your power that we live. I am grateful for all I posses for without You, I would have nothing. I give You thanks today and always

~~Food From His Table~~

Food from the Lamb, is choice
It is indeed a balanced diet
Feeding on His Word, gives strength
To sustain our spiritual life

If we are to grow in Christ
We must eat spiritual food
Serve the Lamb to your family

David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

thankgiv-wreathFor each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

2 Samuel 7:18-29
Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and prayed, “Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And now, Sovereign LORD, in addition to everything else, you speak of giving me a lasting dynasty! Do you deal with everyone this way, O Sovereign LORD? What more can I say? You know what I am really like, Sovereign LORD. For the sake of your promise and according to your will, you have done all these great things and have shown them to me. (NLT)

“How great you are, O Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you–there is no other God. We have never even heard of another god like you! What other nation on earth is like Israel? What other nation, O God, have you redeemed from slavery to be your own people? You made a great name for yourself when you rescued your people from Egypt. You performed awesome miracles and drove out the nations and gods that stood in their way. You made Israel your people forever, and you, O LORD, became their God.

“And now, O LORD God, do as you have promised concerning me and my family. Confirm it as a promise that will last forever. And may your name be honored forever so that all the world will say, ‘The LORD Almighty is God over Israel!’ And may the dynasty of your servant David be established in your presence.

“O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, I have been bold enough to pray this prayer because you have revealed that you will build a house for me–an eternal dynasty! For you are God, O Sovereign LORD. Your words are truth, and you have promised these good things to me, your servant. And now, may it please you to bless me and my family so that our dynasty may continue forever before you. For when you grant a blessing to your servant, O Sovereign LORD, it is an eternal blessing!”
