Paul’s Prayer

prayhands_1For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ehp. 3: 14-19

When one humbly bows to God in prayer, He hears and answers according to his riches.  We are strengthened with his spirit and Christ dwells in us with love. Who can know the great love of Christ? It is a love that no one can fully apprehend.

QUOTE: The Spirit of prayer makes us so intimate with God that we scarcely pass through an experience before we speak to Him about it, either in supplication, in sighing, in pouring out our woes before Him, in fervent requests, or in thanksgiving and adoration. –O. Hallesby

God’s Greatness

We cannot begin to express the greatness of God.There is no tongue is able to express God’s works, or a mind that can comprehend them. He in his bears-pine-forestwisdom knows and sees everything. All creatures are recognized by God. He is great in the gifts of his bounty. He provides for all His creatures. They are patient expectants from him: They all wait upon him. The creatures of earth  seek their food, according to the natural instinct God has put into them and in the proper season for it.They gather, store and eat. They are satisfied and filled with good.

The Bible says:

O LORD, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; The earth is full of Your possessions. Psalm 104:24

Jonathan Edwards  said, —  ”If it were not right that God should decree and permit and punish sin, there could be no manifestation of God’s justice in hatred of sin or in punishing it, . . . or in showing any preference, in his providence, of godliness before it. There would be no manifestation of God’s grace or true goodness, if there was no sin to be pardoned, no misery to be saved from. No matter how much happiness he might bestow, his goodness would not be nearly as highly prized and admired. . . . and the sense of his goodness heightened.”

Jesus and Little Children

Then were there brought unto him little children that he should put his hands on them and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said jesus-childrenSuffer little children and forbid them not to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them and departed thence.
-Matthew 19: 13-15

When Jesus lived on earth, He always had time for the children. He loved  and cared for them. The children were blessed  knowing that the Heavenly Father loved them so.  The Bible says: Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
(Psalm 8:2)

Ready for Christmas

“Ready for Christmas,” she said with a sigh.
As she gave a last touch to the gifts piled high . . .
Then wearily sat for a moment to read.
Till soon, very soon, she was nodding her head.
Then quietly spoke a voice in her dream,
“Ready for Christmas, what do you mean? “
She woke with a start and a cry of despair.
“ There’s so little time and I’ve still to prepare.
Oh, Father! Forgive me, I see what You mean!
To be ready means more than a house swept clean.
Yes, more than the giving of gifts and a tree.
It’s the heart swept clean that He wanted to see,
a heart that is free from bitterness and sin
so be ready for Christmas–and ready for Him.”
-Author Unknown

It is very important that we have a clean heart in our daily walk with God. The Holy Spirit will not dwell in an unclean Temple. We must love the Lord with all our heart, soul, strength and mind. On our journey to Heaven it is important that we put God first in everything. Walter Smith said: 1824-1908

Yea, only as this heart is clean
May larger vision yet be mine,
For mirrored in its depths are seen
The things divine, the things divine.
It’s not altogether about having a perfectly clean home, but about having a heart that is right before the Lord. Jeremiah 17:9-10 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. On our journey home, our prayer should be,” Create in me a clean heart, O God”

Three Keys to Happiness

Our journey on earth is short compared to eternity.  I like to think of God as being my guide. Life is a daily struggle without God.  I have learned to let Him control my life.  Then I have peace with God our Father

~Three Keys to Happiness~

Someone has cited these three keys to happiness:

1. Fret not—He loves you (John 13:1)

2. Faint not—He holds you (Psalm 139:10)

3. Fear not—He keeps you (Psalm 121:5)

 Quotes

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you’ve every had.

It’s true that we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it, but it’s also true that we don’t know what we’ve been missing until it arrives. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they’ll love you back!

Taking A Walk

If you are having troubles with your spouse it is not because of what you think of him or her, it is not because of negative thought patterns, it is not because you haven’t first loved self. But it is what you think of Jesus. Do you love Him First? Do you live for Him First? Is your life, His? If you are right with Jesus Christ the King of Glory, then it will be right with your husband or your wife. And this is what is right with God.

All Christian men and women supernaturally have the positional unity Jesus prayed for in John seventeen. If they are husband and wife, they are also united by God into “one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). The Hebrew word for “one” is echad which means “one, alike, altogether, or all at once.” The very same word is used in Deuteronomy 6:4 for “the Lord is one.” In other words, somehow God makes the husband and wife into “one” as the Trinity is one, a compound unity.

Husbands and wives, recognize that in marriage you have become one flesh. If you live for your private pleasure at the expense of your spouse, you are living against yourself and destroying your joy. But if you devote yourself with all your heart to the holy joy of your spouse, you will also be living for your joy and making a marriage after the image of Christ and His church.
John Piper-Desiring God

Take every opportunity which your nearness provides to be speaking seriously to each other about the matters of God, and your salvation. Discussing those things of this world no more than required. And then talk together of the state and duty of your souls towards God, and of your hopes of heaven, as those that take these for their greatest business. And don’t speak lightly, or unreverently, or in a rude and disputing manner; but with gravity and sobriety, as those that are discussing the most important things in the whole world. -Richard Baxter-

A successful Marriage

A successful marriage means
falling in love many times,
always with the same person.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. — Corinthians: 13:4-8

Recipe for Love

““““““

Take a little bit of me
And a little bit of you
Add an entire decade
And all that we’ve been through

2 cups of loyalty
generously sprinkled with trust
A pinch of forgiveness
And laughter is a must

Blend a smile, a kiss and
Holding each others hands
Add this all together
Between a woman and a man

Stir in two hearts
Sprinkled with adoration
Stir it all together
And you get a good foundation

For Love.

Spouses Prayer for Each Other

“““““““““““““`

Grant that I and my spouse may have a true
and understanding love for each other.
Grant that we may both
be filled with faith and trust.
Give us the grace to live
with each other in peace in harmony.
May we always bear with one another’s weaknesses
and grow from each other’s strengths.
Help us to forgive one another’s failings
and grant us patience, kindness, cheerfulness
and the spirit of placing the well-being
of one another ahead of self.

May the love that brought us together
grow and mature with each passing year.
Bring us both ever closer to you
through our love for each other.
Let our love grow to perfection.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES

The keeping of the heart is a work that is never done till life is ended. There is no time or condition in the life of a Christian which will suffer an intermission of this work. It is in keeping watch over our hearts, as it was in keeping up Moses’ hands while Israel and Amalek were fighting. No sooner do the hands of Moses grow heavy and sink down, than Amalek prevails. Intermitting the watch over their own hearts for but a few minutes, cost David and Peter many a sad day and night.

John Flavel

The devil and temptations also do give occasion unto us somewhat to learn and understand the Scriptures by experience and practice. Without trials and temptations we should never understand anything thereof; no, not although we diligently read and heard the same. The Holy Spirit must be the only master and tutor to teach us therein, and let youth and scholars not be ashamed to learn of this tutor. When I find myself in temptation, then I quickly lay hold and fasten on some text in the Bible which Christ Jesus layeth before me, namely, that he died for me, from whence I have and receive comfort.

Martin Luther

God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies grey and threatening; when our lives have no music in them, and our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage. Flood the path with light, run our eyes to where the skies are full of promise; tune our hearts to brave music; give us the sense of comradeship with heroes and saints of every age; and so quicken our spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls of all who journey with us on the road of life, to Your honour and glory.

Augustine

In the secret of God’s tabernacle no enemy can find us, and no troubles can reach us. The pride of man and the strife of tongues find no entrance into the pavilion of God. The secret of his presence is a more secure refuge than a thousand Gibraltars. I do not mean that no trials come. They may come in abundance, but they cannot penetrate into the sanctuary of the soul, and we may dwell in perfect peace even in the midst of life fiercest storms.

-Hannah Whitall Smith

To every toiling, heavy-laden sinner, Jesus says, “Come to me and rest”. But there are many toiling, heavy-laden believers, too. For them this same invitation is meant. Note well the words of Jesus, if you are heavy-laden with your service, and do not mistake it. It is not, “Go, labour on,” as perhaps you imagine. On the contrary, it is stop, turn back, “Come to me and rest.” Never, never did Christ send a heavy laden one to work; never, never did He send a hungry one, a weary one, a sick or sorrowing one, away on any service. For such the Bible only says, “Come, come, come.”

James Hudson Taylor

The Blood of Jesus washes away our past and the Name of Jesus opens up our future.

We would be still and know that You are God…. We stand in awe of You…, Your awesome holiness, majestic splendor, blazing glory, limitless power, and unquestionable sovereignty. We worship You for Your flawless character, Your infinite knowledge and wisdom, Your absolute justice, unswerving faithfulness, unending mercy…. We bow our hearts and bend our knees before… Your dazzling beauty, Your fascinating personality, Your incomprehensible humility, Your unsearchable understanding, and Your unfathomable love….Our greatest need is to have a far greater revelation of what You are really like. We ask You to meet that need.

Joy Dawson

If a man have parted with something which he had, not knowing the worth of it, or the need he should have of it; he often can regain it, at least with pains and cost. If a man have been overseen in a bargain, and have bartered away or sold something, and afterwards repents of it, he may often obtain a release, and recover what he had parted with. – But it is not so with respect to time. When once that is gone, it is gone forever; no pains, no cost will recover it. Though we repent ever so much that we let it pass, and did not improve it while we had it, it will be to no purpose

Jonathan Edwards
The Works of Jonathan Edwards

What cause have they who have an interest in Christ, to glory in their Redeemer! They are often beset with many evils, and many mighty enemies surround them on every side, with open mouths ready to devour them. But they need not fear any of them. They may glory in Christ, the rock of their salvation, who appears so gloriously above them all. They may triumph over Satan, over this evil world, over guilt, and over death. For as their Redeemer is mighty, and is so exalted above all evil, so shall they also be exalted in him, They are now, in a sense, so exalted. For nothing can hurt them. Christ carries them, as on eagle’s wings, high out of the reach of all evils, so that they cannot come near them, to do them any real harm.

Resolution One: I will live for God. Resolution Two: If no one else does, I still will.
Complete Resolutions of Jonathan Edwards I resolve…

Such is man’s nature, that he is very inactive and lazy unless he is influenced by some affection, either love or hatred, desire, hope, fear, or some other. These affections we see to be the springs that set men agoing, in all the affairs of life, and engage them in all their pursuits: these are the things that put men forward, and carry them along.

Jonathan Edwards
The Works of Jonathan Edwards

If a man had but little provision laid up for a journey or a voyage, and at the same time knew that if his provision should fail, he must perish by the way, he would be the more choice of it. – How much more would many men prize their time, if they knew that they had but a few months, or a few days, more to live! And certainly a wise man will prize his time the more, as he knows not but that it will be so as to himself.

Jonathan Edwards
The Works of Jonathan Edwards

How happy would you be if your hearts were but persuaded to close with Jesus Christ! Then you would be out of all danger: whatever storms and tempests were without, you might rest securely within; you might hear the rushing of the wind, and the thunder roar abroad, while you are safe in this hiding-place. O be persuaded to hide yourself in Christ Jesus! What greater assurance of safety can you desire? He has undertaken to defend and save you, if you will come to him: he looks upon it as his work; he engaged in it before the world was, and he has given his faithful promise which he will not break; and if you will but make your flight there, his life shall be for yours; he will answer for you, you shall have nothing to do but rest quietly in him; you may stand still and see what the Lord will do for you.

Nothing sets a person so much out of the devil’s reach as humility.

Jonathan Edwards
The Works of Jonathan Edwards

All the fruits of the Spirit which we are to lay weight upon as evidential of grace, are summed up in charity, or Christian love; because this is the sum of all grace. And the only way, therefore, in which any can know their good estate, is by discerning the exercises of this divine charity in their hearts; for without charity, let men have what gifts you please, they are nothing.
