A Shining Light

He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. John 5: 35-36

John preached Christ while in his short life on earth. He was”the great light of his day.”  He was inwardly burning with love and zeal, and outwardly shining in all holiness. And it was for a  short time only.
We today have great opportunity to be a shining light. The voice of God, accompanied by the power of the Holy Ghost, can and will lead sinners to conversion of sinners.

 2 Samuel 21:17  “You shall not go out again with us to battle, so that you do not extinguish the lamp of Israel.”

THE GOSPEL IN A NUTSHELL

Jesus replied: `Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’ (Matthew 22:37-40)
Simplicity of the Gospel
John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

Acceping Jesus is the most simple thing one can do. Accept the Gospel by believing in Christ. Christ Jesus comes in and our soul Then Christ does something more for us. He gives us grace to feel our sonship. As we sang just now,—

“My faith shall ‘Abba, Father,’ cry,
And thou the kindred own.”

Having given us grace to feel sonship, Christ gives us the nature of our Father. He gives us “power to become the sons of God.”

Born Again

You must be born again

It is no wonder then that Jesus declared that each person must be born again of the Spirit of God in order to be translated from the realm of darkness, deception and death into the kingdom of God.

Joh 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:4  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
Joh 3:5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Joh 3:7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him
 should not perish,
 but have everlasting life.

Look and See

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. -John 4:35

Harvest in Israel began around mid-April. If Jesus was speaking literally about four months until harvest, that would place this experience at Jacob’s well around the first of December.
Today our harvest field is white. We need to gather in the golden grain while there is time left. It is harvest time. The Saviours calling. The grain is falling. On do not wait. It’s growing late. Behold the fields are white, it’s harvest time.

The book of Acts chronicled the acts of the Holy Spirit through the lives of the believers in the critical formative years of the church. From chapter ten and forward, the preaching of the gospel to the gentiles occupied much of the narrative. The book of Acts closes with Paul’s restatement of the prophecy that the gentiles would receive the gospel which the Jews as a whole had rejected. History has proven this to be true.
